The honest answer is shorter than the question deserves, so it goes first. We could not confirm an English-taught nursing degree in Greece that is open to non-EU applicants. Not that none exists anywhere — that we could not evidence one, and we will not imply a route we cannot show you.
That is a real answer, and worth more than a confident one. Nursing is a regulated profession, which means three separate things get sold to you as a single thing, and the page that blurs them is the page that costs somebody a year.
The three questions, kept apart
| The question | The honest answer for Greece | Who actually decides |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Can I study nursing here? | We could not confirm an English-taught nursing degree open to non-EU applicants. Treat it as a Greek-language route until a named university tells you otherwise in writing | The university, and the language its clinical teaching runs in |
| 2. Will my Bangladeshi nursing qualification be recognised? | Not answerable from anything we can check, and nobody publishes how long deciding it takes. It is not a property of your certificate | A national authority, not a university |
| 3. Can I work as a nurse here? | Not on the degree alone. Registration is a separate decision, and the working language of a Greek ward is Greek | The national authority responsible for the profession |
Clearing one of those rows tells you nothing about the next. Most of the harm in this market comes from quietly moving an answer out of the first row into the third.
Question one: studying nursing in Greece
Greece genuinely is good value: public tuition of EUR 1,500 to 4,000 a year, living costs of EUR 450 to 700 a month, and a degree with full EU recognition. But our guide to what Greece is actually good for says plainly that the English-taught catalogue is narrower than Italy's, and the fields Greece is known for are business, tourism and hospitality, computer science, engineering, and shipping and maritime. Nursing is not among them, and we could not find the programme that would put it there.
There is a structural reason, and it is the same one that makes Bulgaria's English-taught medical degrees teach Bulgarian. A nursing degree is not a classroom qualification with a placement bolted on. It is assessed on the ward: you take a history from a frightened patient, read a drug chart, hand over at shift change and write in a record another clinician has to act on. All of that happens in the language the patients speak. Our guide to how much Greek you really need records that Greek public administration runs in Greek, and that Greece is the country on our list where paperwork most often needs a Greek-speaking helper. A hospital is not the exception to that pattern. It is the sharpest example of it.
So the useful next step is not to search harder for an English-language programme. It is to ask one question in writing, of a named university: in what language are the clinical placements on this programme conducted? Italy's nursing page turns on that same question, and our cross-Europe nursing guide is where the countries with a documented English-taught nursing bachelor's are listed. If a reply names a real one in Greece, good — the rest of this page still applies, because questions two and three do not change.
Question two: what a Bangladeshi nursing qualification is worth here
This is usually the real question behind the search, and the one answered most dishonestly. Start with the vocabulary, because two different decisions get given the same name.
Academic recognition asks whether your qualification is comparable to a Greek one at a given level — the question a master's admission turns on. Across Europe that sits with the country's ENIC-NARIC centre, and the rules are in three-year versus four-year bachelor's degrees and CGPA and ECTS conversion.
Professional recognition asks something different: may you practise the regulated profession of nursing here. That is a decision by a national authority, under national rules, and not a property of your certificate. Our cross-Europe guide states it without softening: recognition of professional qualifications, assessed separately by each country's regulator, and it takes time.
Here is where we stop, and the stopping is the finding. We could not evidence which Greek office takes that decision for a Bangladeshi-trained nurse, and we found no published figure for how long it takes. We will not print an office name or a number of weeks we cannot show you on an official page. The EU's own recognition page, in our sources below, is where the national authority for a given profession and country is identified.
Notice the shape of that gap. Our Greek visa timeline page can at least give you a ceiling in law — a decision on a complete student application within 90 days under Directive (EU) 2016/801 — and beside it our own observed range of four to eight weeks from submission to decision, labelled as our observation rather than anyone's service standard. For the recognition step there is no ceiling we can cite and not even an observation we can offer. A plan with an unbounded step in the middle is not a plan with a slow step. It is a plan you cannot schedule, and you want to know that before you spend.
The paperwork clock, which for Greece is the whole problem
Greece is the only hybrid route among the nine countries we work with. Your file is submitted with biometrics in Dhaka, but the decision is taken by the Greek mission in New Delhi, and the papers travel by courier in both directions — where Bangladeshi students apply for a Greek visa. In front of that sits the document chain, which is the part families leave out of the plan.
Bangladesh joined the Apostille Convention, in force since 30 March 2025 — and Greece objected under Article 12. An objection means the Convention does not operate between the two countries at all, so an apostille buys you nothing on a Greek file and the full consular legalisation chain still applies. Italy, Cyprus, Hungary, Malta, Sweden and Bulgaria accept an apostille; Greece, Denmark and Finland do not. Both halves are load-bearing, and this market gets one or the other wrong constantly — the countries that refuse a Bangladeshi apostille and the attestation order that matters.
For a nursing applicant that is not an administrative footnote. Your transcripts, certificates and course descriptions are exactly the documents a recognition decision runs on, and each has to go through the full chain, in order, because every office verifies the previous office's signature. Our own observation for a typical document set is four to eight weeks for the chain — our observation, not a standard anyone has committed to. Start with collecting transcripts and certificates, course descriptions and syllabi and certified translation in Dhaka, and watch how long each document stays valid: a document expiring mid-chain turns a delay into a fresh problem.
Put the evidenced pieces together and you get the planning shape our timeline page uses: roughly five months from a standing start, which points at starting around May for the October intake and around September for February — Greece's intakes and deadlines. Then add the recognition step, which has no number at all. That is why we would rather you began with an email than an application fee.
The money, which is the easy part
| Item | Figure | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Public tuition | EUR 1,500 to 4,000 a year | Among the lowest of the nine we cover |
| Living costs | EUR 450 to 700 a month | Housing EUR 200 to 380, food EUR 150 to 230, transport EUR 25 to 40, other EUR 60 to 110 |
| Funds to evidence | Plan on about EUR 7,200 for the year | The legal floor is EUR 400 a month, EUR 4,800 a year; consulates ask for EUR 600 to 700 |
| Blocked account | Not required | |
| Tuition before the visa | At least one third, deposited | Greece-specific, and met too late |
| Bangladesh-side spend | Roughly BDT 3 to 5 lakh | The higher band, because Delhi decides the file. None refundable |
Two notes. Budgeting to the legal minimum is the classic Greek mistake: a file built on EUR 4,800 is a file built to be questioned — proof of funds. And the Bangladesh-side spend is committed before anyone has decided anything: ticket BDT 70,000 to 120,000, attestation and legalisation BDT 10,000 to 30,000, courier BDT 4,000 to 9,000 — what you spend before you fly and what Greece costs.
On English: our observed floor for Greek institutions is IELTS 5.5 with 6.0 typical, and some accept a Medium of Instruction certificate or run their own test — Greece's entry requirements. That is our observation across the files we see, not a national rule: Greece publishes no national English requirement.
On working while studying: Greek law permits part-time work under specified conditions, and Greece publishes no weekly hours figure, so we do not print one — student work rules in Greece. A non-EU student needs work authorisation; it is not work from day one, and without a Greek tax number and a social security number nobody can employ you lawfully at all. Nor does a study permit convert into a work permit — a student visa is not a work permit.
Who this page is wrong for
The reader who already holds a Bangladeshi nursing qualification and wants to work, not study. You are not a student applicant. Going on a student visa intending to sort the licence out after arrival is the version of this plan that fails most often, and it fails expensively: the money is spent before the unanswerable question is asked.
The reader who has been told an English-taught degree leads to a nursing licence. It does not, anywhere on our list except where English is an official language. The degree is a qualification; the licence is a separate decision by a different body, with the local language inside it — English-taught versus local-language programmes.
The reader who has been offered "nursing" that is actually caregiving. A care assistant and a registered nurse are different jobs, different qualifications and different permits. When a recruiter merges the two, the merging is the product — fake documents and agency fraud.
The reader whose real goal is healthcare rather than nursing specifically. Public health, pharmaceutical science and the laboratory routes admit on the record you already hold, run in English and need no licence — the health routes that are not medicine.
The reader who needs a community on arrival. Greece has the smallest Bangladeshi student population of the nine we cover, on Eurostat's count, which for a course with clinical placements in an unfamiliar language is worth weighing — what Greece is good for, Thessaloniki and Aristotle University.
What we could not answer, and who to ask
We would rather leave these open than fill them in.
| The unknown | Who answers it |
|---|---|
| Whether a Greek university teaches nursing in English to non-EU applicants | The named university's international office, in writing, about clinical placements |
| Which authority recognises a Bangladeshi nursing qualification in Greece | The EU recognition page in our sources identifies it; the Greek ministries are listed beside it |
| How long a recognition decision takes | Nobody publishes it. Ask the authority, and ask in writing |
| What level of Greek registration requires | Not published that we could find. Our cross-Europe guide records the European pattern as B1 to B2 in the local language — a pattern, not a Greek figure |
What to do next, in order
- 1Decide which of the three questions is actually yours. If it is the second or the third, you are not shopping for a course.
- 2Email two named Greek universities and ask, in writing, what language their nursing clinical placements are conducted in.
- 3Ask the Greek authority what registration as a nurse requires for someone with your qualification — before you enrol, not in your final year.
- 4Start the legalisation chain first. An apostille will not shorten it, and the recognition question waits on the documents it produces.
- 5If both the English requirement and the coming intake are fixed, read the cross-Europe nursing guide and change the country rather than the subject.
- 6Read study in Greece from Bangladesh and Greece versus Italy to check the country still fits your plan; the Greece country guide carries the numbers with their sources.
Checked 21 September 2026. Programmes, language requirements, fees and registration rules are set by each university and by the national authorities, and they change. Confirm them at the source — and treat any page that hands you a recognition timeline for Greece as having invented it.

Common questions
Can I study nursing in Greece in English?+
We could not confirm an English-taught nursing degree in Greece that is open to non-EU applicants. That is not the same as saying none exists anywhere; it means we could not evidence one, and we will not imply a route we cannot show you. Greece does have English-taught programmes, but the catalogue is narrower than Italy's and the fields it is known for are business, tourism and hospitality, computer science, engineering, and shipping and maritime. Email a named university and ask in writing what language its nursing clinical placements run in.
I already have a BSc in Nursing from Bangladesh. Can I work as a nurse in Greece with it?+
That is not a student question, and it is the one most often answered dishonestly. Working on a qualification you already hold is recognition of professional qualifications, decided by a national authority under national rules, separately in every country. It is not a property of your certificate and no university, agency or website can grant it. Ask the authority before anyone spends money, and get the answer in writing.
Who decides whether my Bangladeshi nursing qualification is recognised in Greece?+
A national authority, not a university. Two different decisions get called the same word: academic recognition asks whether your qualification is comparable to a Greek one at a given level, which is what the country's ENIC-NARIC centre handles and what a master's admission turns on; professional recognition asks whether you may practise the regulated profession of nursing, which is a separate decision by the national authority responsible for the profession. We could not evidence which Greek office takes the second decision for a Bangladeshi-trained nurse, so we point you at the EU recognition page in our sources, which is where the national authority for a profession and country is identified.
How long does qualification recognition take in Greece?+
We found no published figure, so we publish none. This is the honest centre of the whole page. For the visa we can at least give you a legal ceiling, because EU law requires a decision on a complete student application within 90 days under Directive (EU) 2016/801, and we can give our own observed range alongside it. For the recognition step there is no ceiling we can cite and no observation we can offer. Treat any page that hands you a number of weeks for Greek recognition as having invented it.
Do I need Greek to work as a nurse in Greece?+
Assume yes, and build the plan on it. A nursing degree is assessed on the ward, in the language the patients speak, and Greek public administration runs in Greek as well, which is why our language guide calls Greece the country on our list where paperwork most often needs a Greek-speaking helper. Our cross-Europe nursing guide records the European pattern for registration as B1 to B2 in the local language. That is the pattern across the continent, not a published Greek figure, and we could not find a Greek one to quote.
What English score does Greece require?+
Greece publishes no national English requirement. What we can tell you is our own observation across the files we see: an effective floor of IELTS 5.5 with 6.0 typical, and some institutions accepting a Medium of Instruction certificate or running their own English test. Treat that as our observation and not as a national rule, and confirm the number with the specific programme. For context on the cost at this end, a computer IELTS in Bangladesh was listed at BDT 29,600 on 9 September 2026, with One Skill Retake at BDT 18,600.
What does studying in Greece cost, and how much do I have to show?+
Public tuition runs EUR 1,500 to 4,000 a year and living costs EUR 450 to 700 a month, among the lowest in the eurozone. Plan on evidencing about EUR 7,200 for the year: the legal floor is EUR 400 a month, which is EUR 4,800, but consulates in practice ask to see EUR 600 to 700 a month, so a file built on the legal minimum is a file built to be questioned. There is no blocked account. One Greece-specific rule people meet too late is that at least one third of the tuition must be deposited before the visa.
Will an apostille speed up my Greek documents?+
No. Bangladesh joined the Apostille Convention and it came into force on 30 March 2025, but Greece objected under Article 12, as did Denmark and Finland. An objection means the Convention does not operate between the two countries at all, so the full consular legalisation chain still applies to a Greek file. Italy, Cyprus, Hungary, Malta, Sweden and Bulgaria do accept an apostille. Both halves of that sentence matter, and this market regularly gets one or the other wrong.
How many hours a week can I work while studying in Greece?+
Greece does not publish that as a single headline figure, so we will not print one. What is settled is that part-time work is permitted under specified conditions, that a non-EU student needs work authorisation rather than being able to work from day one, and that without a Greek tax number and a social security number you cannot be lawfully employed at all whatever your permit says. Ask the immigration directorate handling your permit for the limit that applies to your own case.
Should I choose Greece for nursing, or somewhere else?+
If your requirement is an English-taught nursing degree for the coming intake, change the country rather than the subject, and start from our cross-Europe nursing guide, which sets out where English-taught nursing is actually documented. Greece can be an excellent, genuinely cheap way to hold an EU degree in a subject that suits it. Nursing is not a subject we can currently show that it suits, and pretending otherwise would cost you a year rather than a week.
