Why Cyprus?
For a lot of Bangladeshi students the hardest part of a European application is not the university — it is the embassy. Several countries require an in-person appointment in New Delhi, which means an Indian transit visa, travel cost and a real risk of scheduling problems. Cyprus removes that entire category of difficulty: applications and the student permit are handled from Dhaka.
The universities themselves are mostly private, English-taught, and used to international students. Many accept a Medium of Instruction letter in place of IELTS, which opens the door for students whose test is still pending or whose band came in slightly low.
The honest caveat is Schengen. Cyprus joined the EU in 2004 but is not part of the Schengen area, so your Cypriot residence permit does not let you travel freely across the rest of Europe the way an Italian or Hungarian one does. If weekend travel across Europe is central to why you want to study there, factor that in.
What we would tell you honestly
- Cyprus is in the EU but NOT in the Schengen area. Your residence permit does not give you visa-free travel across Schengen countries — this is the single most common misunderstanding about studying here.
- Most of the universities are private, and quality varies. Check accreditation and the specific programme rather than relying on a general reputation.
- You cannot work in the first six months. Budget for a full semester with no income at all.
- There is usually an application or service fee of around €350 on top of tuition.

Is Cyprus in the Schengen area?+
