Why Hungary?
Stipendium Hungaricum is one of the few genuinely full scholarships a Bangladeshi student can realistically win. It is a bilateral government programme, which means places are allocated to Bangladesh specifically rather than thrown into a global pool, and it covers tuition, a monthly stipend, accommodation support and medical insurance.
The catch is timing. The scholarship runs on its own calendar, opening in the autumn and closing in January for a September start — nearly nine months ahead. Students who start looking in the summer have already missed that year's round, and the single most common reason a strong candidate does not get Stipendium Hungaricum is simply that they found out about it too late.
Self-funding is also viable. Hungarian tuition is modest by European standards and Budapest, while no longer cheap, remains far below Western European living costs. Note that although figures here are shown in euro, Hungary uses the forint, so your real costs move with the exchange rate.
What we would tell you honestly
- Stipendium Hungaricum deadlines fall around January for a September start. Almost every strong applicant who misses out simply started too late.
- The scholarship is competitive and not guaranteed. Have a self-funded or alternative-country plan alongside it.
- Costs are billed in forint, not euro. Exchange-rate movement genuinely changes what you pay.
- Hungarian is a hard language and little spoken outside the country. Part-time work options are more limited than in English-speaking destinations.
