What Lund offers
Lund University was founded in 1666 and is one of Sweden's largest and broadest universities, in the south of the country, half an hour from Malmö and just across the bridge from Copenhagen. Its English-taught master's catalogue is among the largest in Sweden and covers engineering, business and economics, social sciences, law, the humanities and the sciences.
That breadth is the practical reason it appears on so many shortlists: for most subjects, Lund has something. Bachelor's teaching is largely in Swedish, with a small English-taught list — check the individual programme rather than assuming.
The application, which is national and not to Lund
Sweden has one portal for the whole sector, and this trips up almost every first-time applicant.

⚠️ The krona floats. Unlike the euro or the pegged Danish krone, a Swedish fee quoted in kronor moves against the taka in both directions. Build 10 percent of margin into the plan.
The work rule that changed
Sweden's student work limit is 15 hours a week under rules that took effect on 11 June 2026 — materially tighter than Finland's 30 or Denmark's 20. If any part of your funding plan assumed Swedish part-time earnings on the old basis, redo it. Post-study, graduates get 12 months to look for work, with a longer window for research and doctoral graduates.
Where applications fail
- 1Applying to the university instead of the portal, and discovering it in February.
- 2Documents that do not meet the portal's specification. universityadmissions.se is strict about what counts as an official transcript and how it arrives.
- 3Missing the first-instalment payment deadline after an offer. The offer lapses; there is no appeal to make.
- 4Ranking carelessly. Four choices is not many, and putting an unrealistic programme first can cost you a realistic one.
