The one thing that decides a KTH application
KTH Royal Institute of Technology was founded in 1827 and is Sweden's largest technical university, based in Stockholm. Its English-taught master's catalogue is large and covers essentially the whole engineering spectrum plus computer science, industrial management and architecture. Bachelor's teaching is largely in Swedish.
Here is the part that matters more than anything else on this page: KTH admits on documented prior course content. Programmes list the background they require in named subjects and in credit volumes — so much mathematics, so much programming, so much of a named specialism — and the assessment is against your transcript, line by line.
That has a blunt consequence. A Bangladeshi applicant with an excellent CGPA in a degree that does not contain the listed subjects will be rejected, and a solid applicant whose transcript matches exactly will not. This is the most common misunderstanding about Swedish technical admissions, and it is also the most actionable, because you can check it before you apply instead of finding out in April.

How you apply
Through universityadmissions.se, the national portal — not to KTH. One application, up to four ranked choices, SEK 900 paid once, autumn round opening mid-October and closing mid-January, results in March or April. Stockholm, and the honest warning
⚠️ Stockholm's student housing shortage is the real risk of choosing KTH. Queues are long, and KTH's own accommodation service has limited capacity — check exactly what it offers admitted fee-paying students for your intake, and register for every queue you are eligible for the day your offer arrives. The second warning is work. Sweden's student limit is 15 hours a week from 11 June 2026, tighter than Finland or Denmark, and Stockholm rents are the highest in the country. Those two facts together mean a Swedish plan has to be funded, not earned.
Where applications fail
- 1Prior-course content that does not match the stated requirements. The single biggest cause, and checkable in advance.
- 2Transcripts that do not meet the portal's document rules.
- 3A weak or absent CV and motivation where the programme asks for one — KTH's more competitive programmes do.
- 4Losing the place at the payment deadline after a successful admission.

- 2If a required subject is genuinely missing, pick a different programme rather than hoping.
