Where Bangladeshi students apply for a Hungarian student visa: the Dhaka office of a Delhi embassy

Neither an embassy nor an absence

Hungary sits in a category of its own among our nine. It does not have a full embassy in Dhaka, and it does not send Bangladeshi students to India either. What it has is the Dhaka Office of the Embassy of Hungary in New Delhi — a consular office, staffed by a consul, operating under the supervision of the Delhi embassy.

Booking is an email, not a portal

This is the practical difference students notice. There is no slot-hunting website. The appointment is arranged by writing to the consular email address above. That has two consequences worth planning around:

• Write early and write once, with your name as in your passport, your programme, your intake and what you need. A vague email joins a queue for clarification.
• Keep the thread. Your appointment confirmation is in an inbox, not in an account you can log back into.

If you are used to the Italian or Maltese process, where an outsourced centre runs the calendar, this feels informal. It is not — it is simply a smaller operation.

What you are applying for

A Hungarian study file is a long-stay national visa, type D, which is the entry document; the residence permit card itself is issued in Hungary after you arrive, by the Hungarian immigration authority. Confusing the two is the most common misunderstanding here: the sticker in your passport is not the permit, it is permission to travel and to collect the permit. Before the appointment

The file is assembled first and shown once, so the order matters:

2. 2Funds evidence at the level Hungary requires for the permit period, documented the way an officer expects to see it: proof of funds.
3. 3Health insurance valid in Hungary.

Two timetables, not one

Hungary is unusual among our nine because a large share of Bangladeshi students arrive on a government scholarship rather than through ordinary paid admission, and the two run on different clocks.

The visa step is the same for both, but the scholarship route back-loads it: the award decision arrives, and only then does the consular clock start, which compresses everything afterwards. If you are on that route, get attestation and bank paperwork finished while you are waiting for the result, not after it. After you land

The type D sticker gets you into Hungary. The residence permit card is applied for and issued there, through the Hungarian immigration authority, and it is the document that actually governs your stay: the right to remain, the conditions on study and work, and the renewal that follows. Arriving and treating the visa as the finished article is the mistake that produces a status problem three months later, and the institution's international office is the right place to ask about the local procedure.

What we could not confirm

Hungary's Schengen short-stay representation in Bangladesh has been handled at times by another member state's embassy rather than by the Dhaka office. We could not confirm the current arrangement from Hungary's own pages on 9 September 2026, and it does not affect a student, whose case is a long-stay type D. If you need a short-stay Schengen visa for Hungary for any other reason, ask the Dhaka office directly rather than trusting a third-party listing.

The honest summary

Hungary is a Dhaka-handled destination in practice, which puts it in the easier half of our nine, but the office is small and the booking is a conversation rather than a click. Start the email early, keep every reply, and treat the type D sticker as a travel document rather than the permit itself.
