Politecnico di Torino: the TIL test and how entry works

Who Polito actually suits

Politecnico di Torino is a public technical university in Turin, teaching engineering and architecture. In practice it is the natural second application alongside Milan, and for many Bangladeshi students it is the better first one: the English-taught bachelor's provision in engineering is genuinely wide, the entrance route is a published test rather than an opaque evaluation, and Turin is meaningfully cheaper to live in than Milan.

The TIL, plainly

The TIL is Polito's own admission test for bachelor's engineering. It is taken online or at a test centre, it can be sat more than once in a cycle, and your score decides your place in a ranking rather than simply passing or failing you. The practical consequence is that sitting it early gives you a second attempt if the first score is weak, and sitting it in the last window gives you none. The syllabus is mathematics-heavy with logic and physics or comprehension sections; the official page publishes the current structure and sample material.

Master's applicants do not sit the TIL. Their file is assessed on subject content, and the same rule applies as at Milan: the committee is checking whether your bachelor's actually covered what the master's begins with.

What it is genuinely strong in

Mechanical and automotive engineering, electronics and telecommunications, computer engineering, energy and nuclear engineering, civil engineering, and architecture. Turin's industrial history is automotive, and the automotive and mechatronics programmes are connected to that in a way that shows up in internships. If your target is engineering in Europe rather than a specific city, Polito deserves to be on the list.

Fees and EDISU

The fee is income-assessed on the standard Italian model, with the top band near EUR 3,000 a year and a properly filed ISEE parificato moving most Bangladeshi families well below it. Separately, EDISU Piemonte is the regional right-to-study agency for Turin, and its scholarship is the one that matters: fee exemption, a cash grant, and priority for a subsidised room. It has its own deadline, usually earlier than students expect, and it is described in the DSU agency map.

How you apply

1. 1Register on the Polito application portal and pick your round.
2. 2For a bachelor's, book the TIL early enough to sit it twice if needed.
3. 3For a master's, upload transcripts, syllabi, CV and English certificate.
4. 4Run the CIMEA statement or Declaration of Value in parallel with the application.
5. 5After the offer, complete Universitaly pre-enrolment, then apply to EDISU on its own deadline.

The honest part

Polito is less selective than Milan at bachelor's level and not much less at master's level in the popular fields — computer engineering and data-related programmes attract very heavy demand. The refusals follow the same pattern: curriculum mismatch first, weak mathematics second, late application third.

⚠️ Architecture is a regulated profession. Graduating in architecture in Italy does not entitle you to register or practise as an architect in Italy, the EU or Bangladesh; registration is a separate national process with its own examination.
