Who Sapienza actually suits

Sapienza was founded in 1303 and is one of the largest universities in Europe by enrolment. That scale is the point: it runs a broad English-taught catalogue across engineering, economics, statistics, computer science, physics, medicine, archaeology and the humanities, and because it is a public university the fee is assessed on your family's income rather than fixed.

It suits a student who wants a recognised public degree at a genuinely low fee and can cope with slow administration. It does not suit someone who needs a small campus, fast email replies, or a hand-held admissions process.

Entry, honestly

The honest answer to "what CGPA do I need" is that Sapienza does not publish one for most programmes. Master's admission is decided by a departmental committee looking at the subjects you passed, not at a single number. Check the individual programme page — requirements at Sapienza vary more between departments than between universities elsewhere.

What it is genuinely strong in

Engineering (civil, aerospace, energy, nano), physics and astrophysics, classics and archaeology, economics and finance, and medicine. The English-taught master's list in engineering and economics is one of the deepest in Italy. English-taught bachelor's provision is much thinner than the master's list — that gap surprises people every year.

Fees and the income assessment

This is the single most valuable thing to understand about any Italian public university. Tuition is not a sticker price; it is calculated from a declared household income figure. Foreign families file an ISEE parificato through an authorised CAF office in Italy, which converts your parents' Bangladeshi income into the Italian scale. How you apply

1. 1Choose the programme and read its call for applications, not a summary of it.
2. 2Apply through Sapienza's admissions portal within the non-EU window.
3. 3Get your HSC or bachelor's assessed — a CIMEA comparability statement or a Declaration of Value from the Italian embassy. See the difference between the two.
4. 4Once you have an acceptance, complete Universitaly pre-enrolment. No pre-enrolment, no visa.
5. 5File the ISEE parificato as soon as you arrive, before the deadline the fees page names.

Where a Bangladeshi application usually fails

Three patterns, repeatedly. First, the document assessment is left to the end — CIMEA and the embassy both take weeks, and a file that is otherwise perfect misses the Universitaly deadline. Second, medicine. Sapienza's English-taught Medicine and Surgery route requires a national entrance test, and students apply having done no preparation for a science exam sat in English against European candidates who have prepared for a year. Third, subject mismatch at master's level — a general BBA applying to a quantitative economics master's is refused on curriculum content, not on grades.

⚠️ A medical degree from Italy is not a licence to practise anywhere. To practise in Bangladesh you must register with the BMDC and pass its examination for foreign graduates; to practise in Italy you need Italian registration and the language to work in it.
