Italy is one of the most popular European destinations for Bangladeshi students, and its application process contains a step that exists nowhere else. Misunderstanding it costs students entire intakes.
What Universitaly is
It is the Italian Ministry of University and Research's portal where visa-seeking international students submit a "pre-enrolment" application for their chosen programme. It is:
- Not the university admission application — you make that separately on the university's own system
- A prerequisite for the visa — the consulate and VFS read your details from here
- Normally for one programme per academic year (rules change; follow the portal's guidance)

⚠️ Step 4 is where everyone stalls. Submitting the form feels like finishing, but until the university confirms your application on the portal you are not ready for the visa. If confirmation is slow, email the university's international office — it is your job to chase, not theirs.
Step by step
1. Create the account. Register your name exactly as it appears in your passport. Corrections later are painful and cause problems at the visa stage.
2. Complete the pre-enrolment form. You will need your passport (with adequate validity), a passport photo, the exact university and programme names, your previous qualifications, and you must select the Italian Embassy in Dhaka as your consulate.
3. Attach your qualification evidence. This is the second big obstacle. Bangladeshi applicants normally need a Declaration of Value (DoV) from the Italian Embassy in Dhaka, or a CIMEA Statement of Comparability, or the receipt of a DoV application. Which one, how, and how long: the separate guide.
4. Submit and wait for university confirmation. Status is visible on the portal. Once confirmed, VFS normally contacts you by email about an appointment.
5. Submit at VFS. Italian visa applications are lodged at the VFS Global centre in Dhaka — see the VFS guide.
The deadline that costs intakes
Italian student visas carry a hard annual cut-off, typically at the end of November — in the 2026 cycle the Dhaka embassy and VFS announced 30 November 2026 as the last day for pre-enrolment-based student visa submissions. After that no file is accepted, however strong the profile.
Dates change every year. Check the Italian Embassy Dhaka notices page and the VFS student-visa notice once a month. Do not rely on a date an agency quotes; the embassy's own announcement is the only valid one.
The five most common mistakes

If Italy is your plan: check your passport validity (renew now if under six months remain), and start the DoV or CIMEA process, because it is the slowest step in the whole chain and starting it early makes everything else easier.
