What we process, and what we do not
ScholarsDream does not process applications to China. We work with nine European destinations only. This comparison exists because China is a serious alternative that many Bangladeshi students are considering at the same time, particularly for medicine and engineering, and because the Chinese scholarship offer is genuinely strong. We benefit commercially if you choose Europe, so treat the European case below with appropriate suspicion and verify everything.
The comparison
| China | Our nine European countries | |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition, self-funded | Commonly CNY 20,000-40,000 a year for English-taught degrees | EUR 0-16,000 a year depending on country |
| Flagship scholarship | China Scholarship Council award: tuition, accommodation and a stipend | Stipendium Hungaricum, Erasmus Mundus, Italy's DSU |
| Scholarship depth | Very deep, and a large number of places | Narrower, more competitive at full-cost level |
| Language of instruction | English on international programmes | English on the programmes we place into |
| Everyday language | Mandarin, and it is genuinely required for work | Local language, likewise |
| Admission documents | JW201 or JW202 admission form, then an X visa | Country-specific; Universitaly, DreamApply, Studyinfo and others |
| Work during study | Restricted; needs permission from the university and the authorities | 15-30 hours a week as of right, depending on country |
| After graduation | Employer-dependent, no general job-search permit for most graduates | 9 months to 3 years of job-search permit |
| Degree status | Chinese qualification | EU or EEA qualification |
These are typical 2026 ranges. Confirm current figures with the China Scholarship Council and with each European country's own authority.
Where China is genuinely stronger
The scholarship. This is not marketing. The Chinese Government Scholarship, administered through the China Scholarship Council, routinely covers full tuition, university accommodation and a monthly living stipend, across a wide range of universities and fields. In Europe, only Stipendium Hungaricum and Erasmus Mundus reach that level of coverage, and both are far smaller in scale. If you are academically strong and financially constrained, the Chinese route is the one that most often produces a fully funded place.
Engineering, technology and infrastructure. Chinese universities have invested enormously in laboratory and research capacity, and in several engineering fields the facilities are better than what a mid-ranked European university can offer.
Cost, self-funded. English-taught tuition commonly runs CNY 20,000-40,000 a year, and living costs in most Chinese cities are below western European levels.
Where Europe is stronger
The right to work while studying. European student permits carry a statutory right to part-time work — 15 hours a week in Sweden, 20 in Italy, Cyprus, Malta and Denmark, 30 in Finland. In China, student employment requires permission from both the university and the immigration authorities and is materially more restricted. That changes what an underfunded budget can survive.
The exit. Nine months in Hungary, twelve in Italy, Sweden and Cyprus, two years in Finland, three in Denmark — a defined period, granted as of right, to look for work. There is no equivalent general provision for most graduates in China.
Degree portability. An EU degree is recognised across the European Union through a shared framework, and the recognition directives cover regulated professions. A Chinese qualification is assessed individually in each country you take it to.
Medicine, because that is the real question for many readers
⚠️ A Chinese MBBS and a European medical degree land in exactly the same place in Bangladesh. Registration with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council requires a one-year internship in an approved Bangladeshi hospital plus the registration qualifying examination. Neither degree is a licence to practise, in Bangladesh or anywhere else.
Where they differ is Europe. An EU medical qualification benefits from the EU's automatic-recognition arrangements between member states; a Chinese one does not, and each European regulator will assess it case by case. If practising in Europe is any part of the plan, that difference is what the extra European cost is buying. The European arithmetic is in the Bulgaria medicine guide and the Bulgaria versus Cyprus comparison.
Write to BM and DC before enrolling anywhere, on either continent, and keep the reply.
Who should choose what
China is the better choice if you are academically strong enough to be competitive for a full China Scholarship Council award, your family cannot fund a European degree, you are targeting engineering or applied sciences with heavy laboratory needs, or you are willing to learn Mandarin seriously.
Europe is the better choice if you need the right to work while you study, you intend to stay and work after graduating, you want a qualification with EU-wide recognition, or you are aiming at a regulated profession you hope to practise in Europe.
Apply to both if you can. They have different deadlines and neither excludes the other. Losing a year to a single application is the most common and most avoidable mistake in this market — see applying with a study gap for what that costs you later.

Common questions
Does ScholarsDream help with applications to China?+
No. We work only with nine European destinations: Italy, Cyprus, Hungary, Malta, Finland, Greece, Denmark, Sweden and Bulgaria. This comparison is published for information because China is one of the alternatives Bangladeshi families most often weigh alongside Europe.
Are Chinese scholarships better than European ones?+
For full coverage, often yes. The China Scholarship Council award routinely covers tuition, accommodation and a monthly stipend across many universities and fields. In Europe only Stipendium Hungaricum and Erasmus Mundus reach that level, and both are smaller in scale. What Europe offers instead is a statutory right to work during study and a post-study job-search permit.
Can I practise medicine in Bangladesh with an MBBS from China?+
Only after registering with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council, which requires a one-year internship in an approved Bangladeshi hospital plus the registration qualifying examination. That requirement is identical for a European medical degree. The difference is in Europe, where EU qualifications benefit from automatic recognition arrangements between member states and a Chinese one is assessed case by case.
