The phrase that sells Bulgarian medicine to Bangladeshi families is "affordable MBBS in Europe". Bulgaria genuinely is one of Europe's cheapest countries — but medicine is the exception to that rule. A general bachelor's degree there costs EUR 3,000–5,000 a year. Medicine costs roughly double to triple that.
This article puts the numbers first so the decision can be made on arithmetic rather than on a brochure.

So living is genuinely cheap. Tuition is not.
The universities
The best-known public medical universities teaching in English are Medical University – Sofia (founded 1917, the country's oldest), Plovdiv, Varna and Pleven, plus medical faculties at several other institutions.
Verify before you commit. Whatever institution an agent names, open that university's own English admissions page and check the tuition and entry requirements yourself. Advertised figures and a university's own figures frequently differ.
Admission and the entrance exam
Medicine is the one subject in Bulgaria where a competitive entrance exam is standard.

Medical University – Sofia's 2026/27 cycle is a useful shape: documents 27 July to 31 August 2026, entrance exams in English, biology and chemistry on 3 September 2026 (held remotely), teaching starting 19 October 2026.
The practical implication is that the whole cycle closes in the summer immediately after HSC. Starting your research in April or May puts you on schedule; starting in August usually costs a year.

For comparison, a private medical college in Bangladesh typically totals a small fraction of that. What the extra money buys is EU recognition and the possibility of staying in Europe — not an easy route back into Bangladeshi practice.
Funds and the visa
- Proof of funds: Bulgarian law requires monthly means at or above the national minimum wage — EUR 620/month in 2026, so roughly EUR 7,440 a year. No blocked account is required.
- Where you apply: there is no Bulgarian embassy in Bangladesh. The type-D visa application and interview are made in person in New Delhi, so budget the Indian visa, travel and accommodation into the plan.

Coming home: what BM&DC requires
This is the part most agencies leave out, and it is the single biggest condition on your career.
A foreign medical degree does not by itself let you practise in Bangladesh. Registration with the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council generally requires:

- 2A one-year internship in Bangladesh at a BM&DC-approved hospital
- 3Passing the BM&DC registration qualifying examination, held twice a year (typically November and April)
Do this before you apply, not after you graduate: check on bmdc.org.bd that the specific university is on the recognised list. World rankings and "WHO listed" claims are not evidence of BM&DC recognition. After six years and a sum well over EUR 79,000, this one verification is the cheapest insurance you will ever buy.
Who this suits
A good fit if your real budget exceeds roughly EUR 80,000, your biology and chemistry are strong, and your goal is to build a life in Europe rather than to return quickly.
A poor fit if you are pursuing it as a cheap route to becoming a doctor (the numbers say otherwise), your science background is weak (the entrance exam is the real filter), or your plan is to return and practise soon without accounting for the internship and qualifying exam.
Alternatives worth costing
If medicine itself is not essential, the health sector offers far cheaper European routes: nursing, and public health, pharmacy and biomedical science — most of which are one- or two-year master's degrees at a fraction of the cost.
