Computer science and IT in Europe from Bangladesh: where to study and what actually gets you hired

Computer science is the most common route from Bangladesh into European higher education, and the reason is simple: it is the one large field taught entirely in English almost everywhere, from bachelor's to master's.

The map

CountryTuition (per year)Strength
HungaryEUR 4,000–7,000 (near-free on Stipendium)Cheapest; strong engineering tradition
BulgariaEUR 3,000–5,000Low tuition and low living costs
ItalyEUR 900–4,000 (income-assessed)DSU scholarships; Politecnico reputation
CyprusEUR 6,000–9,000Fast process, flexible on IELTS
FinlandEUR 8,000–13,000Deep tech ecosystem, games industry
SwedenSEK 80,000–140,000Startup market, well-known universities
DenmarkEUR 10,000–15,000Highest salaries, strong industry links

Choosing on budget

Tight budget. Hungary or Bulgaria. Stipendium Hungaricum waives tuition entirely and pays a monthly stipend. Italy belongs here too, because public university tuition is assessed on family income and the DSU regional scholarship can make it tuition-free with a grant on top.

Budget available, goal is to stay. The Nordics. Costs are higher, but the tech market is deep, working in English is normal, and there is a structured post-study job-search permit. See the Nordic comparison.

Bachelor's or master's

Most Bangladeshi CSE students go for a master's, and that is usually right: there are far more English-taught master's programmes, more scholarships, and the age fits. Bachelor's programmes in English exist but are fewer and more competitive.

⚠️ The biggest obstacle at master's level is ECTS, not ability. Whether your bachelor's counts as 180 or 240 ECTS determines eligibility at many universities — read this first.

What actually gets you hired

Graduating is straightforward. Getting hired does not depend much on the degree. Employers look at:

  1. 1Evidence of work — GitHub, deployed projects, open-source contributions
  2. 2An internship during the degree — this is what stops you being a "fresher" at graduation
  3. 3Basic local language — tech runs in English, but A2/B1 opens many more doors
  4. 4A thesis done with a company — in the Nordics this is the shortest path into a job

Do this from day one: update LinkedIn with your new city, keep three live projects on GitHub, and visit the careers service in your first semester. On a two-year master's, "I will look for a job in the final semester" is usually too late.

Salaries

Approximate starting monthly gross for a junior software engineer, 2026:

CountryStarting gross (per month)
DenmarkEUR 4,000–5,000
SwedenEUR 3,200–4,200
FinlandEUR 3,200–4,000
ItalyEUR 1,800–2,600
HungaryEUR 1,200–1,800
BulgariaEUR 1,200–2,000

⚠️ These are gross. Tax and social contributions take 30–40% in the Nordics, and living costs scale with the salary. Never pick a country on the headline number alone — see our salary and ROI breakdown.

Common questions

Do I need IELTS to study computer science in Europe?+

Not everywhere. Many universities in Cyprus and Malta run their own English test, several Italian master's programmes accept a Medium of Instruction certificate, and some programmes take Duolingo. Competitive Nordic programmes generally want IELTS 6.5.

Where is computer science cheapest?+

Hungary with a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship (tuition-free plus a stipend), then Bulgaria (tuition EUR 3,000–5,000, living EUR 350–500 a month). Italy is also cheap because public tuition is income-assessed and DSU scholarships exist.

How realistic is getting a tech job in Europe after graduating?+

Realistic, but on the strength of your portfolio, internships and network rather than the degree. In the Nordics, doing your master's thesis with a company is the most effective route in. Starting the search in the final semester is usually too late.
