What ISEE is
ISEE is Italy's combined indicator of family income and assets, used to decide eligibility for DSU. For a Bangladeshi family it means assembling official documents of income and property — salary certificates, business or agricultural income records, land and property papers — having them translated and legalised, and then having an authorised assistance centre in Italy calculate the ISEE Parificato, the foreign-student equivalent.

The biggest mistake: DSU deadlines are separate from admission and often close earlier. Students focused on admission miss the DSU date — and the award. From the day you apply for admission, keep a second calendar for DSU.

Rules, income thresholds and benefits differ between regions — Lombardy, Lazio, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany and the rest each run their own agency (ER-GO, DSU Toscana and so on). The agency for the region where your university sits is the authoritative source; a friend's experience in another region may not apply to yours.

Common questions
Is DSU awarded on merit?+
Mostly not. DSU eligibility is determined by family income and assets through the ISEE indicator. Merit enters only as a continuation condition — you must earn a set number of credits each year to keep the award — but the entry criterion is financial, which is why students with modest results can still qualify.
Is the DSU deadline the same as the university admission deadline?+
No, and this is the most common mistake. Each regional DSU agency sets its own deadline, typically in summer and often before or independent of the university's admission decision. Track it separately from the day you apply for admission.
What is ISEE Parificato?+
The equivalent of the Italian ISEE indicator calculated for students whose family income and assets are outside Italy. It is produced from your family's official income and property documents — translated and legalised — by an authorised assistance centre (CAF) in Italy. Preparing those documents from Bangladesh is the main work of a DSU application.
