A hybrid, and the only one among our nine

Greece is neither a Dhaka country nor a Delhi country. You do the physical part here and the decision happens there.

Why the split matters to your calendar

Your file travels. That adds a courier leg in each direction to whatever the assessment itself takes, and it means the people who could answer a question about your case are not in the building where you handed it in.

The service provider states the position honestly: issuing a visa, and its validity if granted, is the exclusive prerogative of the consulate. It also notes that a short-stay application may need up to 15 days and can extend to 45 calendar days where consultation with other Schengen states is required. A national long-stay study visa is a different category and should be expected to take longer, not less.

Practical rule: treat Greece's timeline as the longest of the six routes you can start from Dhaka, and build the calendar accordingly using the timeline from offer to boarding pass.

Book before you assemble, not after

The appointment is made online through the service provider's site before you attend. Slots, not paperwork, are usually the binding constraint in the June to August rush, which is the pattern described in when there are no visa appointment slots.

Attending without an appointment is not a fallback. The centre exists precisely to control the flow.

What a Greek student file contains

• The acceptance from a Greek institution, and evidence of the programme.
• The study plan. Greece, like Italy, expects a document explaining what you intend to study and why; it is a different artefact from a personal statement and is described in the study plan document for Italy and Greece.
• Funds documented for the period, in the form an officer expects rather than a screenshot.
• Health insurance valid in Greece.
• Legalised documents — not apostilled ones. Greece objected under Article 12 when Bangladesh joined the Apostille Convention, so an apostille does not operate between Bangladesh and Greece and the full consular legalisation chain still applies. Denmark and Finland objected too; Italy, Cyprus, Hungary, Malta, Sweden and Bulgaria accept an apostille. This one error can cost an intake: which countries refuse a Bangladeshi apostille.

The courier leg, in practice

It helps to picture what "decided in Delhi" actually means for your week.

Four of those five rows are outside your control, which is the honest reason this article spends its advice on the one row that is not: what you hand over on day one. A file that triggers a request for a missing document does not merely add the time to fetch it — it adds another round trip.

Note also that ready for collection is not approved. A refusal comes back through exactly the same channel and looks identical until you open the envelope.

After the visa

The national visa admits you to Greece. The residence permit is applied for there, and the application is normally lodged shortly after arrival, with the institution's international office as the usual guide to the local procedure. Until it is issued you are living on the visa, which has an end date, so the arrival month is not the moment to be relaxed about paperwork.

Greece is in the EU, in Schengen, and in the eurozone

All three, which is worth stating only because the equivalents differ across our nine: Cyprus is in the EU and not in Schengen, Bulgaria joined Schengen fully on 1 January 2025 and the euro on 1 January 2026, and Hungary, Denmark and Sweden are the three of the nine that still keep their own currencies. If you are comparing destinations on money as well as process, that currency question belongs in the budget from the start.

Two intakes, and which one to aim at

Greek institutions generally run a main autumn intake with a smaller spring one, and the application windows sit months ahead of each. The practical implication for a Bangladeshi applicant is that the visa timeline, not the admission timeline, is usually what decides whether an intake is realistic — because the admission decision can arrive in a comfortable month and still leave a courier-based visa route with too little runway.

The honest summary

Greece stopped being a Delhi trip and became a Dhaka appointment, which is a genuine improvement and the reason it belongs in a shortlist again. It did not become fast. Submit early, expect a courier leg in each direction, and get the legalisation chain right, because that is the failure that no amount of early filing recovers.
