The study plan document for Italy and Greece

Two documents, one name

Students lose weeks to this. Someone is told they need a "study plan" for Italy, they find an Italian university page describing the piano di studi, and they try to build a list of exams for a university that has not admitted them yet.

They are not interchangeable. The piano di studi is an administrative form inside a student portal, filled from a fixed menu. You cannot write it before you have a student number.

The version that matters now: the visa study plan

Italian and Greek consular files vary, and the honest position is that document lists differ by consulate and by year. What does not vary is what the officer is testing: is this a real, coherent plan, or a route into Europe with a course attached to it?

A study plan that satisfies that has four parts and fits on one page.

1. The programme, precisely. Full official name of the degree, the university, the campus, the language of instruction, the duration and the credits. Not "master's in business" — the exact title as it appears on your admission letter.

2. Why this course follows from what you already did. One paragraph linking your bachelor's subject or your work to the programme's content. Name two or three actual modules from the course catalogue. This is the paragraph that separates a real applicant from a copied template, because it cannot be written without opening the university's own page.

3. Why this country. Answer with something specific to Italy or Greece — a research group, an industry cluster, the cost structure of a public university, a language you intend to learn. "Quality education in Europe" is the sentence every officer has read a thousand times.

4. How it is paid for, and what happens after. Two or three sentences that agree exactly with your funding documents, then a plain statement of what you intend to do with the qualification. Do not promise to return, and do not promise to stay. State your intention honestly and let the funding evidence carry the weight.

Italy: what the file actually needs

⚠️ Do not write a study plan that names a different programme from the one on your Universitaly pre-enrolment. The consulate reads them side by side, and a mismatch in the course title is treated as a serious inconsistency, not a typing error.

Greece: what is different

Greek student visa files lean heavily on legalised and translated documents, and the accompanying letter is usually expected to cover funding as directly as motivation. After you arrive: the real piano di studi

Once you are enrolled in an Italian university you will be asked to submit a piano di studi, usually online, usually with a deadline in the first weeks of term. You select your compulsory exams and your electives for the year. Two practical points:

• It is binding for that year. You sit the exams on your plan. Changing it later is possible but has its own window and can push a graduation date.
• Nobody warns you the deadline is passing. It sits in the student portal, and missing it can block exam registration.
