Two offices, two jobs
Italy is one of the six destinations among our nine that a Bangladeshi student can complete entirely from Dhaka. It is also the one where students most often turn up at the wrong door, because Italy runs the two halves of the process out of two different buildings.
| Job | Who does it | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Takes your papers and fingerprints | VFS Global, the outsourced visa application centre | Its Dhaka centre, address on the VFS Bangladesh site |
| Decides the visa | Embassy of Italy | Bay's Edgewater, NE(N) 12 North Avenue, 3rd floor, Gulshan 2, Dhaka 1212 |
| Sets the student deadline | Embassy of Italy | Announced by notice on its own website |
| Returns the passport | VFS Global | The same centre, at collection |
The embassy's own website links applicants straight to the VFS attend-a-centre page rather than inviting them in, which is the clearest statement of the split you will find. Checked 9 September 2026.
The student route, in order
- 1Get the offer, then complete pre-enrolment on Universitaly. That step is not optional and it is not part of the visa file — it is the thing that makes the visa file possible. The mechanics are in the Universitaly pre-enrolment walkthrough.
- 2Wait to be contacted. The embassy's notice of 10 June 2026 states that students who register on Universitaly are emailed by VFS Global to set up the appointment, at the address given during Universitaly registration.
- 3Attend the appointment, submit the file, give biometrics. What that appointment is actually like is described in what happens at a biometrics appointment.
- 4Wait for the decision, then collect the passport.
The single most expensive mistake in this process is a typo in the email address you typed into Universitaly, because that is the address the appointment invitation goes to. Check it the day you register, and check the spam folder weekly afterwards.
The deadline that ends the cycle
The same notice names Thursday 30 November 2026 as the last day for the embassy to receive student visa applications tied to university pre-enrolment. That is a receiving deadline, not a booking deadline, so the useful reading is: everything upstream of it — attestation, translation, bank paperwork, the appointment itself — has to be finished with room to spare. Work backwards from it using the timeline from offer to boarding pass.
Deadlines of this kind are announced per cycle and change. Read the embassy's notices page before you plan around any date in this article.
What the embassy will not do for you
- It will not take your application at the door.
- It will not give you an earlier appointment because your intake is close.
- It will not confirm a decision by phone before the passport is ready.
None of that is unhelpfulness; it is how an outsourced visa system is designed to work. If someone offers to move any of it for a fee, they are selling something they do not control — the same pattern the Swedish embassy in Dhaka warns about publicly for its own process.
What you can control
- The completeness of the file. Missing documents are the failure mode you can actually prevent. Build it against the one-page document checklist by country.
- The money evidence. Italy asks for proof of means and it is read closely; see proof of funds for a European student visa.
- The consistency. Every name, date and figure on the form must match the passport and the bank papers. A mismatch is read as carelessness at best.
What you pay, and to whom
Two separate charges exist and students routinely confuse them. There is the visa fee, set by the rules governing the visa category and collected on behalf of the Italian state, and there is the service fee charged by the outsourced centre for running the counter. Optional extras — courier return, premium lounges, photocopying, photographs — are exactly that: optional.
The appointment itself is not one of the things you pay for. Where an appointment is scheduled it is free, including when it is booked through the outsourced centre. Anything presented to you as a fee for a slot is not a fee the system charges. The current fee figures live on the centre's own Bangladesh page and in the embassy's notices, and they change; read them there rather than from an article, and keep the receipt, because it carries the reference number you will need to track the file.
If you are not going through university pre-enrolment
The invitation-by-email arrangement described above is tied to Universitaly registration for university pre-enrolment. Other study-related categories — a language course, a shorter programme, an institution outside the pre-enrolment system — are not necessarily handled the same way, and we would rather say that plainly than let you assume you will simply be contacted.
If your programme does not sit inside university pre-enrolment, write to the embassy's published address once, describe the programme in one sentence, and ask how applications in that category are lodged. One email in April is cheaper than a discovery in August.
If Italy is still one of several options
The country guide has the fees, the tuition model and the intake calendar: study in Italy from Bangladesh. If you have not settled on a destination, the country comparison puts Italy beside the other eight on cost and language.
The honest summary
Italy is administratively one of the easier of the nine to apply for from Bangladesh, precisely because both the submission and the decision happen in Dhaka. The friction is concentrated in one place — the wait for the VFS email — and the only real protection against that wait is starting the Universitaly step early and typing the email address correctly.

Common questions
Do I submit my Italian student visa file at the embassy in Gulshan?+
No. The Embassy of Italy in Dhaka decides the application, but submission and biometrics happen at the VFS Global Italy visa application centre. The embassy's own website links applicants to the VFS centre page rather than accepting files directly.
How do I get a student visa appointment for Italy?+
For university pre-enrolment students you do not book it yourself. The embassy's notice of 10 June 2026 states that VFS Global contacts applicants who have registered on Universitaly, using the same email address given during that registration. Check that address is correct on the day you register, and watch the spam folder.
Is there a cut-off date for Italian student visa applications?+
Yes, and it is announced per cycle. The embassy's June 2026 notice named Thursday 30 November 2026 as the last day it would receive student visa applications for university pre-enrolment. Dates like this change every year, so confirm the current one on the embassy's notices page before planning around it.
