Where students actually live
The seafront areas — Neapolis, Potamos Germasogeias — are the most expensive, driven by tourism and expatriate demand. Students generally settle in Agios Athanasios, Mesa Geitonia, Zakaki or Kato Polemidia, where rents run EUR 100-200 lower and buses reach campus.
The universities

- Several private universities also operate campuses here
Check two separate things before enrolling: that the institution is on the Cypriot authority's list of recognised providers, and that your specific programme is accredited. They are not the same check.
Work and internships
This is Limassol's real argument. Shipping, fintech, foreign exchange, software and tourism all operate in English, so not knowing Greek does not close every door. That said, student work rights in Cyprus are specific, limited and subject to change — verify them against the official pages before you build any income into your plan.

Common questions
Limassol or Nicosia?+
Nicosia is EUR 100-200 a month cheaper and has a wider choice of English-taught programmes. Limassol costs more but has the best access to English-language work and internships on the island. Tight budget, Nicosia; employment focus, Limassol.
Why is rent so high in Limassol?+
The city is the base for shipping, fintech and technology firms, and demand from international professionals has pushed rents up. Living inland rather than near the seafront closes much of the gap.
Can international students work in Cyprus?+
Only under specific conditions and in particular sectors, and the rules change over time. Check the official immigration and labour pages before planning any income; a verbal assurance from an agent is not sufficient.
