What we process, and what we do not
ScholarsDream does not process applications to Malaysia. We work with nine European destinations and nothing else. This comparison exists because Malaysia is the most common alternative a Bangladeshi family is weighing at the same time, and refusing to discuss it honestly would be worse than useless. We have an obvious commercial interest in the European answer, so read the Malaysian case below knowing that, and check every figure against the official sources at the end.
The comparison
| Malaysia | Our nine European countries | |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition, typical | MYR 15,000-40,000 a year at private universities | EUR 0-16,000 a year depending on country |
| Living costs | About MYR 1,500-2,500 a month | EUR 350-1,000 a month |
| Flight from Dhaka | Direct, a few hours, cheap | Long haul with a connection |
| Language of instruction | English | English on the programmes we place into |
| Everyday language | Malay, but English is widely used | Local language outside the classroom |
| Bangladeshi community | Very large and long-established | Small in most of the nine |
| Halal food | Everywhere, by default | Available in cities, requires seeking out |
| Student regulator | Education Malaysia Global Services | Each country's own authority |
| Work during study | Restricted, limited hours and sectors | 15-30 hours a week depending on country |
| After graduation | Narrow pathways | 9 months to 3 years of job-search permit |
| Degree status | Malaysian qualification | EU or EEA qualification |
Figures are typical 2026 ranges, not quotes. Malaysian tuition varies enormously between public and private institutions and between fields.
Malaysia's real advantages, stated fairly
Cost, and not only tuition. The flight home is short and cheap enough that a family emergency does not become a financial crisis. That is worth more than it looks on paper.
Community and comfort. There is a large, established Bangladeshi population, halal food is the default rather than a search, and the cultural distance is small. For a first-time traveller, particularly a young undergraduate, that reduces the failure rate in a way no ranking captures.
Entry. The student pass route through Education Malaysia Global Services is comparatively straightforward, and the financial evidence expected is lower than any European embassy will ask for. If proof of funds is your binding constraint, this matters.
Branch campuses. Several British and Australian universities operate campuses in Malaysia, so a UK-badged degree can be obtained at Malaysian cost. Verify carefully what the awarding body is, and confirm recognition with the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh in writing.
What Malaysia does not give you
An EU degree. Within the European Union, qualifications from member states are assessed through a shared recognition framework, and for regulated professions there are recognition directives. A Malaysian qualification sits outside that. If your longer plan involves working or doing a doctorate in Europe, you will be starting that conversation from a harder position.
A meaningful post-study route. This is the honest weakness. European destinations grant a defined period to look for work after graduation — nine months in Hungary, twelve in Italy, Sweden and Cyprus, two years in Finland, three in Denmark. Malaysia's pathways from student to worker are narrower and more employer-dependent. If the point of studying abroad is to build a life abroad, that gap is the whole argument.
Wage levels. Graduate salaries in Malaysia are substantially below northern and western European levels. Whether that matters depends on whether you intend to stay.
Who should choose what
Malaysia is the better choice if your total budget genuinely cannot reach a European funds requirement, you are a young undergraduate for whom cultural distance is a real risk, you need to be able to fly home cheaply and often, or you want a British or Australian branch-campus degree at a fraction of its home price.
Europe is the better choice if you want an EU degree and the recognition that comes with it, you intend to work after graduating rather than return immediately, you want a meaningful right to work during study, or you are targeting research and a doctorate.
Neither is a good choice if you are being sold a package by someone who will not put the awarding institution, the tuition and the visa route in writing. That failure mode is identical in both markets — see how to choose a consultancy.
If Europe is the direction
Start with the cheapest credible routes rather than the most famous ones: Italy, Hungary or Bulgaria on a tight budget, then run your real numbers through the cost calculator and take the five-minute eligibility check.

Common questions
Does ScholarsDream help with Malaysia applications?+
No. We work only with nine European destinations: Italy, Cyprus, Hungary, Malta, Finland, Greece, Denmark, Sweden and Bulgaria. This comparison is published for information because Malaysia is the alternative most families weigh alongside Europe.
Is Malaysia much cheaper than Europe?+
Usually yes. Private-university tuition typically runs MYR 15,000-40,000 a year with living costs of about MYR 1,500-2,500 a month, and the financial evidence expected at the visa stage is well below any European embassy's requirement. Flights home are also short and cheap.
What is the biggest disadvantage of studying in Malaysia?+
The exit. European destinations grant a defined post-study job-search period, from nine months in Hungary to three years in Denmark, and an EU degree carries recognition across the union. Malaysia's student-to-worker pathways are narrower and more employer-dependent, so if the goal is to build a career abroad, that gap is the central issue.
