The interest, declared first
We are a study-abroad consultancy. An article by us comparing us to the free alternative is exactly the sort of article you should read sceptically, so here is the position up front: most self-funded applicants to a single country with a straightforward degree can do this themselves, and the whole free guide is on this site precisely so they can. What follows tries to be useful whichever way you decide.
What each route costs
| Line | Doing it yourself | With a consultancy |
|---|---|---|
| English test | BDT 20,000-26,000 | Same — paid to the test centre |
| Attestation and apostille | BDT 5,000-15,000 | Same — paid to the ministries |
| Certified translation | BDT 500-1,500 a page | Same — paid to the translator |
| Application fees | EUR 0-100 per programme | Same — paid to the university |
| Visa or permit fee | EUR 50-600 | Same — paid to the embassy |
| Tuition, insurance, funds | Unchanged | Same — paid to the institution directly |
| Guidance or service fee | BDT 0 | BDT 2,00,000-2,50,000 |
| Upfront processing or file opening | BDT 0 | BDT 20,000-30,000 |
| Your own time across a cycle | 80-150 hours | 15-30 hours |
Two things to notice. Every line except the last three is identical in both columns, because those are third-party costs that go directly to the test centre, the ministry, the university and the embassy. An agency that routes any of those through itself is adding a margin, not a service.
And our own fee structure, since it belongs in an article like this: the core consultancy fee is payable only after the visa is approved, with a limited processing or file-opening charge before that. The current figures per country are on each country guide and on our services page.
What no fee can buy
This is the part worth being blunt about.
- An IELTS score. You sit the test.
- Your transcript and CGPA. Fixed before anyone met you.
- A bank balance. Nobody can lend you credibility on this; embassies examine source and history.
- A visa decision. Made by a consular officer, on a file, under national law.
⚠️ Any offer attached to those four — a guaranteed visa, an arranged bank statement, an improved document — is not a service. It is misrepresentation, and if detected the consequence is a refusal recorded against you, damaging every future application, sometimes with an entry ban. This is set out in full in fake documents and agency fraud.
Where an agency genuinely earns its money
Not in typing forms. In these:
Sequencing. Attestation before translation, translation before upload, offer before visa appointment, appointment before ticket. Getting the order wrong rarely fails loudly; it just costs six weeks, which in a January-deadline country costs a year.
Format errors. A photograph at the wrong dimensions, a scan over the file-size limit, a bank letter that omits the account opening date, an MOI letter that mentions instruction and not examination. Individually trivial, collectively the most common reason a file stalls.
Complexity. A three-year pass degree, a study gap, a name that differs across SSC, HSC, NID and passport, a sponsor who is not a parent, a spouse coming too, a country whose visa is filed in Delhi. Each of those has a known solution and a costly wrong turn.
Deadline management. Four of our nine countries close within about two weeks of each other in January.
Where doing it yourself is clearly better
- One country, self-funded, a four-year honours degree, a clean IELTS, parents as sponsors. This is a well-documented path and the authorities publish everything you need.
- A Nordic application. Studyinfo, University Admissions Sweden and the Danish system are built for direct applicants and are genuinely usable.
- A scholarship application. Stipendium Hungaricum, Erasmus Mundus and the Nordic schemes are applied for by the student directly, and no agency improves the assessment of your own essays.
- When money is tight enough that a fee would come out of your living budget. A thinner first year in the destination is a worse risk than a slower application.
Start with the step-by-step guide, the document checklist and the free templates. They are on the site for exactly this reason.
The fee structures that should end the conversation
- 1A visa guarantee of any kind.
- 2Full payment demanded before any result.
- 3An offer to arrange documents or funds.
- 4Fees that are unclear, or that appear later.
- 5Pressure to decide today.
- 6No written agreement.
- 7One country pushed regardless of your profile, which usually means their commission rather than your interest.
The seven red flags article expands each of these, along with the questions to ask any agency before signing.
How to decide
Ask one question: which specific parts of my file are complicated? If the honest answer is none, do it yourself and keep the money for your first semester. If the answer names two or three real complications, get help with those and pay for guidance rather than for typing — after the visa, in writing, with third-party costs going directly where they belong.

Common questions
Can I apply to a European university without an agency?+
Yes, and for a self-funded applicant to one country with a straightforward degree it is the sensible choice. The universities, immigration authorities and scholarship bodies all publish complete instructions, and scholarship applications are made by the student directly in any case.
How much does a study abroad consultancy charge in Bangladesh?+
Full guidance typically runs BDT 2,00,000 to 2,50,000, often with a smaller processing or file-opening charge earlier. Ours is payable only after the visa is approved. Third-party costs such as tuition, insurance and visa fees are separate and should always go directly to the institution.
What should a consultancy fee never include?+
Anything attached to a guaranteed visa, an arranged bank statement, or an improved document. Those are misrepresentation rather than services, and if detected they produce a refusal recorded against you that damages every future application. A fee buys guidance and sequencing, never an outcome.
