The rule that explains all of these
Portals are built for administrators, not applicants. Once you submit, the record becomes an official document and most systems stop letting you touch it. Some allow an edit window of hours; some allow none. The support route, where it exists, runs through a ticket queue in a foreign time zone during an admissions peak.
So the cost of a form error is not the error. It is the weeks.
Your name is the single biggest source of failure
Bangladeshi names do not split cleanly into a given name and a surname, and every portal insists that they do. The answer is not to decide for yourself — it is to copy the split your passport already made.
Open your passport's machine-readable zone, the two lines of characters at the bottom of the data page. The part before the double chevron is your surname; everything after it is your given names. Whatever that split is, use it in every portal, every form and every payment, even if it looks wrong to you.
⚠️ If your passport puts everything in the given-name field and leaves the surname blank, do not invent one. Follow the portal's own instruction for applicants with a single name, and if there is none, repeat the given name in the surname field only when the portal explicitly says to. Inconsistency between your admission letter, your visa application and your ticket is what causes real problems at the airport.

Signatures: three different things
Portals mean at least three different things by "sign", and treating them as one is a common rejection.
- 1A typed name. Some systems accept typing your name in a box as an electronic signature, and say so explicitly. If it does not say so, it is not one.
- 2A scanned handwritten signature. Sign on plain white paper with a black or blue pen, scan or photograph in good light, crop tightly, and upload as an image with a clean white background. Do not sign on lined paper and do not use a stylus scrawl that looks nothing like your passport signature.
- 3A wet signature on a printed form. Several visa applications still require a printed, physically signed form submitted at the appointment. Print it after final submission so the printed copy matches the record, sign it in the same hand as your passport, and do not sign a form you have not read.
Your signature should be visually consistent across the passport, the application and the appointment form. Officers do compare them.
Portal-specific traps
Universitaly (Italy). The pre-enrolment is tied to a specific university and programme and to the academic year. Selecting the wrong consulate or the wrong programme is a common and painful error. Walk it through with the Universitaly guide.

Studyinfo (Finland) and universityadmissions.se (Sweden). Both are centralised, both run to national deadlines that do not move, and both rank your programme choices in an order that matters. Decide the ranking before you start typing, not in the last hour.
The account itself
Use one email address, yours, for the entire journey — application, offer, payment, visa, arrival. If a consultancy created your account, get the address changed to yours before you accept an offer. Students have lost admission letters and payment deadlines because the only copy went to an agency inbox they could not access. Set a password you can retrieve two years later, and write down which portal, which email and which application ID belongs to which university.

Common questions
How do I split my name into first and last name on an application form?+
Copy the split your passport already made. In the machine-readable zone at the bottom of the data page, the text before the double chevron is the surname and the rest is your given names. Use that split everywhere, even if it does not match how you normally write your name.
Can I correct a mistake after submitting an application?+
Sometimes, but rarely quickly. Some portals allow an edit window of a few hours, most lock the record and route corrections through a support ticket during their busiest weeks. Assume submission is final and read the whole form cold before pressing the button.
Is typing my name a valid electronic signature?+
Only where the portal explicitly says so. If the form asks for a signature without saying that typing counts, upload a scanned handwritten signature on plain white paper, or print and sign the form. A typed name where a real signature was required is treated as an incomplete application.
What if my passport expires during the application?+
Renew before you apply if less than about a year remains. A passport number changes on renewal, and updating it across a university portal, a visa application and a payment record mid-cycle is slow and sometimes impossible without resubmitting.
