Germany's genuine advantages
These are real and not worth disputing:
- Public university tuition is close to zero — only a semester contribution, often EUR 150–350, which usually includes a transport pass
- World class in engineering, automotive and applied sciences
- A very large economy and job market
- A large Bangladeshi and South Asian community
- A structured post-study job-search period and a clear route to permanent residence
UNESCO's 2023 data put around 5,046 Bangladeshi students in Germany, making it the largest European destination.
Three obstacles to cost in
1. The blocked account — the money is needed up front
A German student visa requires a full year's living costs deposited in advance into a Sperrkonto (blocked account), from which a fixed sum can be withdrawn monthly. The 2026 rate is roughly EUR 992 a month, about EUR 11,904 for the year.
This is the crucial difference, and it is widely misunderstood: tuition is near zero, but the cash commitment is the highest. Most of our nine countries need no blocked account — bank evidence suffices, so the money stays under your control.

2. The visa appointment wait
This is the least discussed and most decisive factor. Student visa appointments at the German mission in Dhaka involve long waits — reported at times as running beyond a year — and processing takes at least six weeks after a complete file is submitted.
⚠️ What that means in practice: you can be admitted and still miss the intake. Waiting times change constantly, so check the German mission in Dhaka's own pages before deciding — this single fact sets the whole timeline.
By comparison: Italian and Maltese files are lodged at VFS in Dhaka; Cyprus issues from Dhaka; and Finland, Sweden and Denmark grant permits online (with a trip to Delhi for biometrics).
3. Language
- At bachelor's level German is effectively essential (usually B2/C1) — English-taught bachelor's programmes are limited and competitive
- At master's level English-taught programmes are plentiful, so the barrier is much lower
- In the job market, opportunities without German are limited outside tech
Who Germany suits
✅ A good fit if you want a master's and have found an English-taught programme; you can block EUR 11,900 up front; you have a year or more of waiting time; you want to learn German and settle there long term; and your field is engineering or technology.
❌ A poor fit if you need to travel this intake; blocking the full sum at once is difficult; you want a bachelor's straight after higher secondary without German; or you have no interest in learning the language.

The honest conclusion
Germany is not a bad choice — many Bangladeshi students do very well there. It is a low-tuition, high-cash-commitment, long-wait route that rewards patience and preparation.
