The night before
Lay everything on a table in the order of the mission's own checklist and tick it off item by item, out loud. It takes twenty minutes and it is the difference between an appointment that works and an appointment that has to be rebooked three weeks later.
Then put it all in one folder, not several, and put the folder in a bag small enough to go through the door.

The fee, specifically
This trips up more people than anything except photographs. Application centres differ on what they accept — cash in a stated currency, a card, a bank draft, an online pre-payment receipt — and some refuse notes that are torn, taped or heavily worn.
Check the accepted payment method on the centre's own page the day before, and take the exact amount in clean notes as well as a card. Carrying both costs nothing.
What not to bring
Most Dhaka application centres run airport-style security with limited or no storage:
- Large bags and backpacks are frequently refused entry
- Laptops and tablets are usually not allowed
- Sealed envelopes and packages are refused
- Phones may be allowed but deposited; assume you will not have yours inside
- Food and drink other than a small bottle of water
Because the phone often goes into a locker, anything you need must exist on paper. That means the appointment confirmation, the reference number, and the phone number of anyone waiting for you outside.
Only you are going in
Application centres generally admit the applicant alone, with narrow exceptions for minors and for applicants who need assistance. Parents, relatives and agents wait outside, and waiting space is often minimal and uncovered.
Plan it: decide who is coming, where they will wait, and how you will find each other afterwards without a phone. If a family member has travelled with you from outside Dhaka, book the appointment with enough margin that a delay does not cost them a train.
⚠️ Never carry a document you know to be false, and never let anyone add one to your folder. A fabricated bank statement or an invented employment letter converts an ordinary application into a fraud finding with consequences that last years — the arithmetic is set out in fake documents and agency fraud.
On the day
- 1Eat before you go. Appointments run late and there is nothing inside.
- 2Arrive early, but not hours early — many centres will not admit you long before your slot.
- 3Go through the folder once in the queue, in checklist order.
- 4At the counter, answer what is asked and nothing more. The clerk is verifying a list, not interviewing you.
- 5If something is refused as missing, write down exactly what is required, then rebook. Arguing costs the slot.
- 6Take the receipt, check the reference number on it, and photograph it when you get your phone back.
After
Your passport stays with the mission. Track using the reference on the receipt, and resist the urge to check it several times a day. Common questions
Do I need to bring my old passports to the visa appointment?+
Yes, including cancelled ones. They carry your travel and visa history, and several missions ask for them explicitly. Leaving them at home because they have expired is one of the more common reasons a file is returned at the counter.

How should I pay the visa fee?+
