What Aalto actually is
Aalto is three institutions in one: the old Helsinki University of Technology, the Helsinki School of Economics and the University of Art and Design Helsinki, merged in 2010 and based on the Otaniemi campus in Espoo, a metro ride from central Helsinki.
That history explains the shape of the place. It is strong where technology, business and design meet, it runs one of Finland's largest English-taught catalogues, and it is the Finnish university a Bangladeshi engineering or computer science applicant is most likely to have heard of.
The three routes in, and they are not the same

Read the year's own admission page before you assume which gate applies. Aalto changes selection methods between cycles more often than most universities, and an entrance-exam requirement that existed two years ago may be scored differently now.

- Architecture, industrial and visual design — internationally recognised, and portfolio-gated
- Business, especially entrepreneurship and finance

How you apply
Through Studyinfo, like every Finnish university — not to Aalto directly. One application, up to six ranked choices, a single main round in early January for the following autumn. The honest paragraph
Aalto's computer science and data science programmes attract very large international application volumes. A good CGPA is the entry ticket, not the differentiator. Bangladeshi applications most often fail on:
- A prior-study profile that does not meet the stated credit requirements in mathematics, programming or statistics — Aalto states these numerically and applies them numerically.
- A portfolio submitted for design or architecture that shows finished pictures rather than process. These faculties want to see how you think, including failed drafts.
- Documents that do not meet the certification instructions, which are enforced literally.
- Assuming a waiver. Without one, Aalto plus Espoo living costs is among the most expensive combinations in the nine countries we work with.
⚠️ Nobody can promise you a scholarship, and no consultancy that says otherwise is telling you the truth. Apply as though you will pay in full, and treat a waiver as relief rather than as a plan.
Before you apply
- 1Print the programme's prior-study requirements and tick them off against your transcript, credit by credit.

Common questions
Does Aalto require an entrance exam?+
Some bachelor's routes in science and technology do, with an accepted SAT result as an alternative in some cycles. Master's admission is normally on documents. Aalto changes its selection methods between cycles, so the current year's admission page is the only reliable answer.
How competitive is Aalto for computer science?+
Very. It receives large international volumes and applies its stated prior-study credit requirements numerically, so a strong CGPA alone does not carry an application. We cannot publish an acceptance rate because Aalto does not publish one per programme.
Is Aalto affordable without a scholarship?+

Can I apply to Aalto and the University of Helsinki at the same time?+
